Managing PCOS Naturally - November 17 Update

Hey everyone! Last month I shared my progress with PCOS - which had taken a natural route instead of relying on my doctors and not getting anywhere. This month I'm giving an update on how well that is going for me.

As I mentioned in this post, I found Vitex and had started using it in very small quantities. After a month of taking the supplements, I had my first period for over 3 months in October. I have since completely given up on my doctors for any help regarding PCOS, and am doing well with this new approach.

This month I've had my period, which makes it two months in a row! I can't even remember the last time I had two periods within a normal time period. My cycle was 33 days, so still a little longer than the average 28-30 day cycles, but I'm not complaining! It might not seem like much to some, but it's a huge thing to me and I couldn't be happier!

I've also changed my diet now. I try not to add sugar to food, and go for the low sugar option when possible. PCOS is related to insulin resistance and metabolism issues, so changing my diet made sense. I've not completely cut out treats, such as if I'm really craving chocolate I'll still eat some, but I have cut back on how much I allow myself to eat. I have one or two cups of coffee if I want one, but again I have severely cut down on how much sugar I put in it. I figure I'm only going to stick to it if I don't feel like I'm "allowing" myself food. I'm still learning what does and doesn't help my body, so I'm willing to try anything.

Adding a small amount of exercise to my daily routine has helped too. At the moment I'm only doing some body-weight exercises, but I do want to add weights once I have built up some strength. I've noticed that doing abdominal exercises has helped a lot with period cramps and the like, so all in all I'm pretty pleased with this months progress!

I hope sharing my experience with PCOS can help others, so I've made a category for PCOS posts if you'd like to read them! You can find them here.

Thanks for reading,
Bella x
