Why I Don't Tell People Offline That I'm a Blogger

I recently ran a poll on Twitter asking bloggers if they told people about their blog or not. I was curious to know what other bloggers did, as I myself only tell a few select people. I was surprised by the results to say the least!

I can count on one hand the amount of people I know personally who know about my blog. None actively read my blog that I know of, but they celebrate my successful moments with me and I tend to bounce ideas off of my partner every now and then.

There are obviously other people I could tell, but I tend to shy away from talking about my blog to family and friends.

It might seem silly in some ways; I share my experiences and opinions with strangers and leave it on the internet for anyone to read, yet I won't tell family members about it.

I'm not embarrassed about my blog, but I think I'm a bit scared of what people would think and say about it or me. I don't want to be in the position where I'm scared to post about certain subjects.

I asked what others thoughts were on sharing their blog in a Blog Chat on Slack (you can read about it here) and Cat from More About Cat, who also happens to be the creator of the Blog Chat I'm a part of, was wonderful enough to answer my question!

"I'm really open with my blog, my family know about it (although don't read it), my colleagues at work know about it (some of them read it) and same with friends - they know but not everyone bothers with it."

"I basically decided to share it because I felt like some of the more honest posts might be useful to people in my life. At the end of the day, I have nothing to hide from anyone and that if they judge me for the blog then they aren't very good friends as it's my biggest hobby. It's also helped me in my career so if I can share it with prospective employers, I can definitely share it with friends and family...at least that's my logic!"

After reading Cat's reasoning behind sharing her blog, it's definitely made me think more about sharing my blog with everyone. It might not happen straight away, but there's always the possibility.

Whatever you decide to do, be it sharing your blog with everyone you meet down to the cashier at the supermarket or blogging completely anonymously, do what you're comfortable doing. As you can see there are quite a few people in each answer of the poll, so you're definitely not alone in whatever you decide to do.

Do you share you blog? Let me know down in the comments or on Twitter!

Thanks for reading,
Love, Bella xo
